The extinction of the practice would be one of the few great success stories of the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China on the mainland. In this video, we look at how Chinese society, prodded by Christian missionaries and western-minded reformers, finally stamped out a tradition that survived multiple dynasties and lasted for nearly a thousand years.
