Douglas County Assessor Toby Damisch talks with Douglas County Republican Chair Steve Peck to talk about the jump in property taxes.
How are property taxes determined?
1. Assessed Property Value
2. State Tax Rate
3. Mill rate
- Assessed property values can be challenged through June 8, 2023.
- State Tax rate can be changed by the state legislature through a special session.
- In Douglas County, the Mill rate is made of 8-12 different taxing authorities depending on where you live in the county. For example: water mill, school board mill, metro district, fire, library, etc.
