After the magnificent capture of Shanghai and Nanjing, the Japanese sought to take it all and marched towards Wuhan, the Chinese wartime capital. China, then defended by the Chinese Nationalists, reeled.
Then came Taierzhuang.
The Battle of Taierzhuang would prove the mettle of the Chinese, who scored their first victory against Japan. A brutal, bloody battle, it delivered a message that China would be no punching bag.
