An unfortunate tragedy occurred this week when a 32-year-old French journalist, Arman Soldin, working for the AFP news agency, was killed in Eastern Ukraine. He was hit by rocket fire near Bakhmut while traveling with a team of AFP journalists accompanying Ukrainian soldiers. Thankfully, the rest of the team was left unscathed. This event brings to light the dangers that journalists face in order to report the news from around the world. As an American, it is especially disturbing to think of a brave journalist who gave his life to bring attention to the conflict occurring in Eastern Ukraine. We should be grateful for the risk that so many dedicated journalists take to cover stories that affect us all.
