Hopeful immigrants surrender to US Border Patrol in El Paso

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced border agents would conduct a “targeted enforcement operation” in El Paso, Texas, on Tuesday, May 9, against immigrants who have not been processed for entry into the United States. According to reports, and confirmed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), early on Tuesday morning, plainclothes agents distributed Spanish-language flyers to migrants at Sacred Heart Catholic Church that informed them they had a short deadline to surrender to federal agents and secure amnesty. “As we have said repeatedly, individuals who do not have a lawful basis to remain will be removed,” said CBP Acting Commissioner Troy Miller in the DHS’s press release. “Individuals should not listen to the lies of smugglers and instead use lawful pathways to protection.” Video filmed by Corinne Boudreaux shows a line of people in El Paso near a Border Patrol station on Tuesday.
