The sun is an ever-present source of light and energy that affects everything from weather to biology. It not only sustains life on Earth but also emits a steady stream of particles called the solar wind and occasionally unleashes massive clouds of solar material known as coronal mass ejections or X-ray bursts called solar flares, which can have far-reaching effects throughout our solar system. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) constantly monitors the sun and captures images of it in 10 different wavelengths to reveal different temperatures of solar material.
