THE 3 BEST Super Mario Bros Power Up Items

One of the things that makes the Super Mario Bros franchise so much fun is the different power-up items you can pick up throughout the games. From the very first Super Mario Brothers, you had the power-up mushroom and the fire flower, along with the invincibility star. As the series has gone on, they've given Mario, Luigi, Princess, Toad, and other characters more power-ups to play with. These are my three favorite power-ups in the Super Mario Bros series.

Number 3
The Mega Mushroom
It's cool that Mario can get big and all with the standard mushroom, but once you unlock the Mega Mushroom in New Super Mario Bros DS, and now in other games, you can bash and smash throughout a number of different levels. This is one of those things that is just so much fun, the only bummer is that it has a finite amount of time that you can use it for.

Number 2
The Cape
Mario's flying in Super Mario World is one of the reasons why I love that game so much, and the cape is terrific. I love the animation and the cartoon that shows the bottom of the cape actually tied to the top of Mario's shoes, it's a neat little animation trick. It has a lot of the same powers and characteristics as the raccoon tail, but it just has that extra little something. I love this power-up.

Number 1
The P-Wing
This one seems like you're cheating, to be honest with you, but the ability to fly through an entire level and never have to touch the ground was so amazing back in the day. The P-Wing only lasts for one level, but it transforms you into Raccoon Mario and allows you to fly from the very start to the very end of a level. The one thing to be careful of is if there are bullet bills or cannon balls flying off the screen if you are above the screen as you could get hit. Again, this is like you're cheating, and I love it.
