Romanian biometrics company PayByFace has launched its facial recognition-based payment solutions in South Africa, India, the United Arab Emirates and the United States.

The company's CEO, Mihai Draghici, made the announcement in a LinkedIn post over the summer and then spoke about the news in an email interview with Biometric Update.

"As a pioneering EU fintech startup committed to the global movement toward a cashless and cardless society, using the face as a highly secure virtual card, we need to take action outside the EU to understand global customers," Draghici said.

According to the CEO, India, the United Arab Emirates, the U.S. and South Africa are dynamic markets where retailers have begun to integrate biometric payments into their POS processes to reduce friction in point-of-sale transactions, prevent fraud and increase operational efficiency.
