Don't let life slip by

In 2012 I decide I wasn’t going to be poor anymore.

To do that I needed to get smarter — it’s not that I was dumb but I was smart in areas that weren’t paying me.

So I made a snap decision to change my hobbies & what I did for fun.

TV wasn’t fun anymore.

Reading books was fun.

Going to the movies wasn’t fun…

Watching courses, learning how to write, setting goals — THAT was fun.

Over time it re-wrote my hobbies and even my identity.

In hindsight it’s not that it overrode my identity but rather, it just created a new one.

I can still go into fun mode and when I do it’s a blast.

A friend calls it “Sabbatical Taylor” because when I go on my yearly sabbatical, nobody recognizes me…

It’s full on.

But most of the time — I crave learning like most people crave sweets.

I’d be hooked up to a podcast or a book 24/7 like an IV drip.

It literally doesn’t matter what I’m learning, either.

One of my values, written into my bones in 2012, is “getting smarter.” If I’m learning something, I’m super happy…

It’s not a destination you arrive at, it’s the process of getting closer — if you can rewire around the progress, you’re a LOT more likely to actually get to whatever destination you’re trying to get to.
