Bruno Bauer, Karl Marx, atheism and Jesus mythicism

Jesus mythicists stress that there are no works written by Jesus, and that the supposed non-Christian sources that do mention him are Christian forgeries, blah blah blah.
The mythicist position centers on a threefold argument pioneered by the German scholar Bruno Bauer (1809–1882):
1) the New Testament is not historically reliable
2) there are no non-Christian contemporary sources about Jesus
3) Christian faith is modeled on ancient pagan stories
From 1839 to 1841, Bauer was a teacher, mentor and close friend of Karl Marx.
Becoming a militant atheist, he earned the names “Messiah of Atheism” and “Robespierre of Theology”, concluded that the New Testament Gospels were forgeries, that Jesus of Nazareth had never existed, and that religion was a form of self delusion that fettered intellectual freedom.
His radical theology resulted in his termination from a teaching position at the University of Bonn.
The Soviets used Bauer’s fierce attacks on Christianity as anti-religious agitprop and one modern biographer has recognized Bauer as “the world’s first atheist theologian”.
