For the past 3 months, a friend was driving his car with a loose steering wheel. He said it got progressively loose during that time.

He was very lucky he brought it to me to tighten it down. The nut had a couple more threads before it would come off. If it did come off, there would be no control of the car and possibly an accident would definitely happen.

NOTE:
The battery negative terminal was removed for 2 minutes for safety reasons because of the air bag. I'm not taking any chances for it to blow up on my face. You can disconnect the air bag but I did not.
