Installing new rear brake retainer clips. It was missing. Those just don't just wear or fall off. That is why it was making a rattling noise.

I was doing an oil change at my friends house and his brother in law that moved from Hawaii a couple months ago asked me to check why his van was making a rattling noise when he is driving but the noise stops when he presses his brake pedal.

Before he moved he had it checked out at a dealer in at they could not figure it out.
It took me a couple minutes to figure out the problem without test driving the van.
The top brake pad retainer clips were missing on the right rear brakes.
The noise was from the pad kept on slapping all around and hitting the caliper bracket.

After the retainer clips were installed, the owner test drove and the noise was gone.

I mentioned to the owner that it's time to change the pads since it's almost worn down.
I could have replaced the pads if he had bought a new set but said he will have it replaced soon and will call me.

Note: First step is to check if all the parts is there when diagnosing a car.
