A year ago I replaced the catalytic converter with an aftermarket converter with this car. It passed smog test.

So now it passed again because of the non-fouler installed with the O2 sensor.

NOTE:
Many people do not know but there is a Recall on the ECU and catalytic converter. Recall states, if you smell a bad egg odor and MIL light ON for a P0420 code.
The ECU will need to be replaced or "MAYBE" recalibrated as well as the cat will need replacement, but only if it is still under warranty, Toyota Specified Major Emission Control Component Warranty, 96 months or 80K miles, whichever occurs first.
I replaced the cat last year and now same code came up again. So I figured ECU will need to be replaced or recalibrated but it could be couple $100 to recall and over a $1000 to replace the ECU.

My friend does not want to spend that kind of money. I was employed at the dealer and replaced hundreds of ECU's on Corolla's and Matrix's but all were under warranty.
