Riffle minnow was caught during barbel fishing and immediately returned to the river (autumn 2022).

The European riffle minnow Alburnoides bipunctatus (Bloch, 1782) [Pisces, Cyprinidae] – first record in Brandenburg The European riffle minnow Alburnoides bipunctatus inhabits wide parts of Europe from the Atlantic coast of France eastward to the Ural as well as large areas of middle Asia. While the riffle minnow in Czech, Slovakia, and Hungary is present in many rivers and forms a recent part of the fish community, the current German records are rather sparse. Populations are only known in few rivers in South and West Germany. As a rheophilic and gravel spawning species of the lowlands, Alburnoides bipunctatus'long since has been intensively subject to the human impact on the rivers and smaller tributaries in Europe. Because of rarity and small population size, this species is mentioned in the Red Lists of endangered species of the Counties of Germany under categories ranging from 0 to 2 (extinct – seriously endangered, close to extinction – endangered), and strictly protected the year round.
