Extensor Digitorum Brevis:
Origin:
Dorsal Surface of the Calcaneus

Insertion:
Lateral Side of the Distal Tendons of the “Extensor Digitorum Longus” of the Toes #2 to #4

Functions:
Extension of the Toes #2 to #4 @ the MTP and PIP & DIP Joints

Nerve:
Deep Fibular (Peroneal) Nerve

Activation: Extension of Toes #2 to #4 @ the MTP and IP Joints
Lengthening: Flexion of the Toes #2 to #4 @ the MTP and IP Joints

Extensor Hallucis Brevis:
Origin:
Dorsal Surface of the Calcaneus

Insertion:
Proximal Phalanx of Toe #1 (Big Toe)

Function:
Extension of the Toe #1 (Big Toe) @ the MTP Joint

Nerve:
Deep Fibular (Peroneal) Nerve

Activation: Extension of the 1st Toe @ MTP
Lengthening: Flexion of the 1st Toe @ MTP
