Synopsis: During World War II, Finland is an ally of Germany. Nazi ideas flourished among the Finnish leadership, who developed a theory of racial superiority.

The Finnish administration introduced martial law in the Soviet Republic of Karelia. The Finns divided the population of occupied Soviet Karelia into "citizens" and "non-citizens". The citizens were people of Finnish and Ugric origin. They got shelter, jobs and ration coupons. All other nationalities, mainly Slavs, were superfluous to Greater Finland.
From 1941 to 1944, the Finns built 14 concentration camps, 34 labor camps and dozens of prisons in Karelia. According to official data alone, about 25,000 people passed through the network of Finnish camps.

The prisoners remember that every day they had to work for 10-12 hours and there was terrible hunger. Klavdia Nyupieva, who survived the camp, remembers that her family of seven had only seven spoons of flour a day.

The death rate in Finnish concentration camps was even higher than in German ones. However, the exact number of people who died in the concentration camps in Karelia and Petrozavodsk is still unknown.
