The private aerospace company Rocket Lab launched two storm-tracking NASA satellites into orbit from New Zealand on May 8. Footage released by NASA shows a rocket taking off carrying what the agency described as two “shoebox-sized satellites” that can “gather near-hourly data on the formation and development of tropical cyclones.” “This constellation aims to improve forecasting of devastating tropical storms and save lives,” Rocket Lab said on Twitter.
