Silence and stillness - Like the soft patter of raindrops, a Zen mind is quiet and still.

Acceptance - The drops of rain simply flow down the roof, accepting whatever path they take. A Zen practitioner accepts life as it comes with an open and balanced mind.

Detachment - The rain is detached from any judgments about the roof. It flows impartially. So too, a Zen adept tries to be detached from emotions and preconceptions, observing life with equanimity.

Impermanence - Raindrops form, flow, and dissolve ceaselessly. All things in life are impermanent. A Zen student cultivates insight into this truth through meditation.

Peace - The imagery of rain falling on a quiet barn roof conveys a sense of peace, calm and meditation. This is the ultimate goal of the Zen practice.

The essence of Zen and the mindset of someone practicing it. The rain falls silently, accepting and detached, aware of impermanence, bringing peace.
