FRISCO, N.C. – A teenager from Virginia died Saturday afternoon after a hole dug near a sand dune collapsed on him on North Carolina’s Outer Banks, the National Park Service said.
The 17-year-old boy from Chesapeake, Virginia, was buried under several feet of sand in a back-dune area not visible from the beachfront at about 2 p.m. in the small town of Frisco in Dare County, N.C., the park service stated in a news release.
Family and friends found the teen trapped under the sand after a dune apparently collapsed into the hole, the park service stated.
