Yuri Bezmenov (1939-1993) was a former Soviet KGB agent who defected to the West in 1970. After his defection, he became an expert on Soviet propaganda and subversion tactics and became known for his interviews and lectures in which he warned about the dangers of Soviet influence and subversion in Western countries.

Bezmenov claimed that the KGB had a long-term strategy to infiltrate and subvert Western democracies through a process of ideological subversion, which involved four stages: (1) demoralization, (2) destabilization, (3) crisis, and (4) normalization. He argued that this process could take up to 15-20 years and could be carried out through various means, including propaganda, media manipulation, and disinformation.

Bezmenov's warnings about Soviet subversion and his insights into the KGB's methods of operation have been widely discussed and debated in academic and political circles, with some experts praising his insights and others criticizing his claims as exaggerated or misleading.
