Here's how a 3D print extruder works in general. The following parts will be described.

Nozzle:
The nozzle is the part that dispenses molten filament to the print bed to form a real product.
It's mounted to the heater block and will heat up too.

Heater block:
The heater block is providing heat to the nozzle and has a built in thermistor to measure temperature.
Now a constant temperature is possible to generate a regulated filament flow.

Heatsink:
The heatsink of a 3D print extruder dissipates heat which is generated by the hotend.
It helps the extruder having a stable temperature.

Insert:
The insert fits into the hotend and helps to protect it.
It's made of high-temperature resistant materials, like stainless steel or PTFE.
The insert also improves the heat transfer to the filament.

Tube:
The tube will guide the filament through the extruder to the nozzle.
It will be pushed into the insert to be positioned. The insert also prevents melting of the tube.
