Notre Dame realignment: Does home schedule justify $75M?

Notre Dame is seeking $75 million annually from its media rights contract with NBC, which is currently worth $22 million and expires in 2025.

It is unclear if NBC or any other networks will be willing to pay that amount, especially given Notre Dame's fluctuating viewership numbers and the rise of conference-specific TV deals.

While Notre Dame is a major draw, averaging over 2 million viewers per game, its home schedule may not have enough marquee matchups to justify the price tag.

In the coming years, Notre Dame will face several notable opponents at home, including Texas A&M, USC, Alabama, and Clemson, but may also schedule lower-tier teams to fill out its home schedule.

If Notre Dame and NBC do not come to an agreement, it is possible that the school could join a conference like the Big Ten, which recently signed a lucrative TV deal with Fox, NBC and CBS... or perhaps they could join the ACC, forcing a renegotiation of their current ESPN contract.
