The Gospel according to Martin Luther

Martin Luther rejected four books from the New Testament (Hebrews, James, Jude, and Revelation) due to their incompatibility with his own doctrines. He refused to accept their inspiration and placed them in an appendix at the back of his Bible. Luther's approach to Scripture was based on his own theological beliefs, suggesting that someone today could also remove books from the New Testament if they disagree with their theology.

Martin Luther dismissed Hebrews, James, Jude, and Revelation from the New Testament canon when he translated the New Testament into German. Luther rejected the inspiration of these books.
These Biblical texts were incompatible with his doctrine. He denied their inspiration as they held teachings that contradicted his new doctrines.
He judged Jude to be a modified copy of 2 Peter. Luther also denied that an apostle wrote Revelation or that the Holy Spirit inspired it.
Luther appealed to no authority but his own personal discernment and placed these four books in an appendix at the back of his new Bible in an effort to drop them from the New Testament entirely.
Luther's criticism of the Bible was not based historical arguments. He cared little about whether a writing was apostolic or not, but rather whether its contents agreed with what he perceived to be the truth of Scripture.
Given Luther's example, someone today could remove any number of books from the New Testament canon if they judge them to be non-inspired because they read the Bible and found it failed to match their theology.
