A school of thought handed down from the Greek philosophers has most western Christians afraid of the Law because it is too material. They prefer to "feel led" to do things rather than simply obeying the plain meaning of God's Word. Bruce agrees with Paul's teaching that we present our bodies as living sacrifices, and points out that believers do not need to wait to feel led because God is leading with His Word out of the blocks at the starting gun.

Some of this "material or physical is bad" thinking snuck into the Church from '60's Jesus people following the false Christ of Godspell and Jesus Christ Superstar. But instead of being conformed to God's ways they simply Christianized pagan philosophy such as transcendental meditation. Instead of "ohm," now they just sing songs over and over and over and over.

To maximize the fruit of the Spirit, we have to pursue changes with a whole effort. Inside and out. Heart, soul, mind and strength. God's Law is the perfect method of tying it all together.
