LATEST NEWS: Former President Trump's Deposition Video Released in E. Jean Carroll Case
Attorneys for E. Jean Carroll, the writer who accused former President Donald Trump of raping her in the 1990s, have released about 48 minutes of video footage from the deposition of the former president. The footage, which was shown at the trial, features a series of combative exchanges between Trump and Carroll's attorney, Roberta Kaplan, in which he reiterated that the allegations were made up and claimed that Carroll was not his type.
During the deposition, which took place in October, Kaplan showed Trump a photo of himself with his then-wife Ivana, Carroll, and her then-husband John Johnson. Referring to Carroll, Trump said, "It's Marla," referring to his second wife, Marla Maples. When told that it was Carroll in the photo, Trump claimed that it was "very blurry."
Carroll sued Trump for defamation and battery after he denied her allegations, and the video footage was shown to the jurors in the federal civil trial. The release of the video was requested by media organizations.
In the video, Trump insisted that the allegations were false, saying that Carroll was "not my type" and that he had never met her before. He also told Kaplan that he would not have any interest in her either. Carroll's attorney challenged Trump's claims, stating that he had been seen with Carroll at a party and had spoken with her on the phone. Subscribe for more content like this.
The case has garnered significant attention due to the involvement of a former president, and it raises important questions about the accountability of those in positions of power. It also highlights the issue of sexual assault and harassment, and the difficulties faced by survivors in seeking justice.
Carroll's decision to speak out about her experience is courageous, and it serves as a reminder of the importance of believing survivors and taking their allegations seriously. The release of the video footage is a significant step in the legal process and provides an opportunity for the public to gain a better understanding of the case. Ultimately, it is up to the court to determine the outcome of the trial, but the case has already had a profound impact on the national conversation around sexual assault and harassment.
