KLM makes a start: digital passport and facial recognition to help avoid long queues

A digital passport is to help avoid long queues at Schiphol Airport. KLM will launch a trial of "biometric boarding," or facial recognition, at the airport in February. This should make travel much easier. Passport control will then already be carried out at home.

There has been much criticism of the plans. "As we thought, the chaos was deliberately created to deliver the 'solution': digital ID," tweets Eva Vlaardingerbroek.

We remember the travel chaos last summer.

"Beautiful and transparent. The plan was there all along, then you harass travelers for months because of deliberate understaffing, and then you come out of the woodwork with the desired solution," says Koen Verhagen, the initiator of Properganda.

Digital ID and vaccination passports are the start of a "social credit system" where "Europe becomes China," says Eva Vlaardingerbroek @EvaVlaar

MEP Rob Roos (JA21) commented, "Until recently we never had long queues at Schiphol. It is a stupid excuse to propose mass surveillance systems as a solution."

"The introduction of e-ID will be an irreversible and undesirable development," Roos stressed. "Remember that the Covid passport was once introduced to enable travel between member states during the pandemic. In the blink of an eye, you needed the Covid Pass to visit a bar or restaurant!"

Singer Tim Douwsma responds, "And you thought the queues were 'coincidence'?" Investigative journalist Marc van der Vegt adds, "Who would have thought."

"You see, that's what the queues at Schiphol were for? In line with the pilot project with Canada launched by the WEF?" wonders Bas Filippini.

The Netherlands and Canada are working together with the World Economic Forum on the so-called Known Traveler Digital ID.

It is a partnership between the WEF, the Dutch government, the Canadian government, Air Canada, KLM and some airports, including Schiphol Airport.
