A 9-Month-Old Baby and His Two Brothers One Kilometer from the Frontlines. Civilians Near the Front

Fedorivka, Bakhmut district. The frontline is 1,5 kilometers away from here. Gunfights and even shots from firearms are easily audible in this village. From a hilltop nearby one can see Soledar, a town where fierce fighting between Ukrainian and Russian forces took place in January of 2023. Since then, the town is under Russian control. Fedorivka is located quite close, 12 kilometers from Soledar.

Sometimes, the bullets fired at the frontlines hit houses in the village. Russians fire Grad MLRS at the village. They also carry out air and artillery strikes. The village outlasted 24 strikes with 300- and 500-kilogram bombs. Fedorivka has been without power and natural gas supply, mobile coverage for a year now. Humanitarian aid is delivered rarely — volunteers are afraid to come to this village.

Out of 300 residents, just over 20 remain in the village. Among them are Denys, Vika, and their three sons. Their house is on the edge of the village, with the field and the frontlines behind it.
