Mitochondria: Age & WATER

Video talks about simple mitochondria behavior. It is well known that they make water but what for. Is knowing this useful or important? How does age tie to mitochondria function? How does environment tie to mitochondrial function? Some longevity models dont make much sense or need to be explained more. Fill in my blanks in the comments if you have answers or insight.
