April 30, 1963 was a tragic day for the Lynbrook Fire Department and the village of Lynbrook. On that day, 60 years ago, three Lynbrook volunteer firefighters and a school crossing guard were killed in the line of duty when two Lynbrook fire trucks collided at Peninsula Boulevard and Hempstead Avenue while responding to a reported house fire. The department held a memorial service to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
