Ed Sheeran told reporters outside a Manhattan court on Thursday how he was happy he wouldn’t have to “retire from his day job” after winning a copyright infringement lawsuit involving a Marvin Gaye song. The family of Ed Townsend, the late co-writer of Gaye’s “Let’s Get It On”, had accused Sheeran of copying sheet music and other elements from the song for his 2014 hit “Thinking Out Loud.” Sheeran said the chords used in both songs were common musical building blocks that would continue to be used in songs “long after we are all gone.”
