May 4, 1963 - At a White House meeting today, President Kennedy described the situation for Negroes in Birmingham as "intolerable." As heard on this tape recording, Mr. Kennedy spoke with members of Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) about the Administration’s legislative agenda. At one point, the President referred to a photograph by AP photographer Bill Hudson that was published in the morning newspapers showing a Negro citizen of Birmingham being attacked by a police dog.
