Peter Gruber (;ater Groover) was born ca 1700 in Taxenbach, Berchtesgaden, in the vicinity of Salzburg, Austria. After the protestants were driven from Austria, they searched for several years for a new home. About 1734 General James Oglethorpe discovered about 100 people were still searching. He invited them to the Georgia Colony and they settled in an area known as Ebenezer.
