Chandler man who shot his ex-girlfriend gets shot at by officers after breaking into another home
The Chandler Police Department said a 40-year-old man suspected of shooting his ex-girlfriend Monday morning near Dobson and Ray roads is now in police custody.
Alan Burgener has been identified as the man sought by police for the violent altercation reported at about 10:30 a.m.
Chandler police said officers had been actively searching the area for Burgener since Monday's incident. On Tuesday, authorities said a concerned citizen called police to say they had seen Burgener nearby.
After searching the area, police located Burgener and took him into custody.
Police said before he was arrested, an officer fired shots at Burgener, but he was not hit, and no officers were hurt.
Police said Burgener's ex-girlfriend sustained a non-life-threatening injury as a result of the shooting.
After the altercation, Burgener fled to another residence and allegedly stole a car and fled the scene.
Chandler police said Burgener has ties to Mesa and has had prior contacts with police involving domestic violence and drug-related offenses.
