RENFIELD

Renfield is a character from Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula," first published in 1897. Renfield is an inmate at a lunatic asylum who becomes obsessed with consuming living creatures in order to absorb their life force.

Renfield is initially under the care of Dr. John Seward, a character who runs the asylum. Dr. Seward uses Renfield as a test subject for his research into mental illness. However, Renfield's behavior becomes increasingly erratic and violent, and he develops a strange connection with the vampire Count Dracula.

Renfield becomes Dracula's servant, providing him with a steady supply of fresh blood in exchange for promises of immortality and power. Renfield's ultimate fate is left ambiguous in the novel, but it is heavily implied that he is killed by Dracula.

Renfield has become a popular character in adaptations of "Dracula," both in film and on stage. He is often portrayed as a sympathetic figure, driven mad by the horrors he has witnessed and the manipulations of Dracula. In some adaptations, he even becomes a hero, sacrificing himself to help defeat the vampire.
