Phoenix officer 'almost unrecognizable' after attack near Central Avenue and Thomas Road

A Phoenix police officer is recovering after multiple facial bones were broken by a man during a domestic violence dispute Sunday night. Court documents state that 24-year-old Rudy Gomez was arrested on two felonies for assaulting a police officer, which resulted in the officer being hospitalized and needing surgery. The Phoenix Law Enforcement Association (PLEA) said in a statement that the officer was almost unrecognizable only minutes after the assault.
