Biden’s Sudden Border Reversal - Here’s Why

After two years of ignoring the human rights crisis raging at our southern border, President Biden has decided to pull his head out of the sand and is sending 1,500 troops to aid our overwhelmed, undermanned U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents.

It’s encouraging to see the President finally taking some kind of action to secure the border, but he may be more than a day late and, in this case, thousands of troops short. In the last three days alone, there were 22,220 apprehensions at the border, according to U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raul Ortiz. And those are just the illegal crossings they were able to stop.

According to reports, there were nearly 17,000 “gotaways” who are now somewhere in our country. And that same article reports there are caravans of thousands of migrants camped out just across the border, waiting for May 11th, when Title 42 officially ends and they can no longer be turned away without being processed first. And we’re hearing about alternatives to detainment. Well, if you’re not sending them back, but you’re not detaining them, what are you going to do with all these illegal migrants? We know the answer. Make them promise to behave, and send them off into the interior with a pat on the back, likely to never be seen or heard from again – if we’re lucky.

We have a real problem on our hands, and with all due respect to the President, deploying 1,500 troops is just a drop in the bucket now. When President Trump sent 5,000 troops to the border in advance of a migrant surge, he was mocked by the Left. Now we see even that might not have been enough manpower to secure the border. U.S. Border Patrol and towns like El Paso, TX, are bracing themselves for the tidal wave of undocumented migrants about to steamroll the border in just over a week. It’s going to be chaos. And for American families living near the border, it’s dangerous.

This is what happens when an Administration ignores a serious problem for TWO YEARS.

Today’s full Sekulow broadcast includes more analysis of the White House announcement of 1,500 U.S. service members being deployed to aid CBP as they prepare for a major surge of illegal migrants trying to cross the border in just over a week. We are also joined by ACLJ Senior Advisor for National Security and Foreign Policy Ric Grenell to discuss America’s standing in the world.
