Lutherans Defending Catholics? - Fostering Authentic Masculine and Feminine Virtues
Catholic Drive Time - 877-757-9424
Date – Tuesday, May 2nd - 2023 – St. Athanasius
Saint Athanasius, whose feast day is celebrated on May 2, was one of the greatest saints of the Church, and his life offers valuable lessons for Christians. St. Athanasius lived during the time of Emperor Constantine and his immediate successors. During this period, the Church was transitioning from the catacombs to organizing itself in the light of day. However, as the pagan persecutions decreased, the Church was plagued with heresies and internal divisions. The heresy of Arianism was particularly nefarious as its followers denied that Jesus Christ was God, instead claiming that He was only a human being. St. Athanasius, who was the Patriarch Archbishop of Alexandria, was the great giant who fought against Arianism. He spent 17 of his 46 years as archbishop in exile, due to Arian plots against him, and was even threatened with death. During one of his flights, he was forced to spend six years hidden at the bottom of an abandoned well. He was always confident in Divine Providence, always disposed to fight, and always unwavering in his orthodox purposes. He fought against Arianism through his sermons, and his words were taken down, copied, and spread throughout the Roman Empire. In conclusion, St. Athanasius's life is a shining example of perseverance, courage, and faith, and his fight against Arianism provides an example of how to resist heresy.

R. And Thou shalt renew the face of the earth.
Oremus:
O GOD, Who taught the hearts of the faithful by the light of the Holy Spirit, grant that, by the gift of the same Spirit, we may be always truly wise, and ever rejoice in His consolation. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
