China's Ding Liren becomes men's world chess champion
Ding Liren from China has become the men's world chess champion, the first Chinese to do so, after defeating Russia's Ian Nepomniachtchi in a rapid-play tiebreaker at the World Chess Championship in Kazakhstan. He won the final game in the fourth tiebreaker, claiming the title.
The 30-year-old from Wenzhou is China's highest-ranked chess player and undefeated in classical chess, holding the record for the longest unbeaten streak in top-level chess history. Ding's victory reflects China's growth in the global chess scene, where it has dominated women's chess tournaments since the 1990s.
What was the length of Ding's unbeaten streak in classical chess?
