Viola Sororia is a perennial salad vegetable for US zones 4-8. She likes growing in a moist, shady location, and will be in flower between April until late May or June, location depending. Both flowers and foliage are edible - not just for several woodland critters, but us humans, too! This ground cover species is packed with nutrients, notably vitamins A and C - one gram of violet leaves has as much vitamin C as a whole orange - not bad for an early spring salad vegetable!
