Everybody Rides For Free

You might listen to today's Segue City Special and think, "Gee, this is just one song. Where's the segue?" But, you'd be missing the fact that it is two versions of the same song mixed together and reflects what happened to the Edgar Winter Group near the beginning of their time as a group. This was the first hit song for the group, however the studio album version featured Ronnie Montrose as the lead guitarist but he left the group to form his own group that was named "Montrose" before the song was released as a single so Rick Derringer took over as the lead guitarist with Edgar Winter. His style was clearly different so the group re-recorded "Free Ride" for the single version featuring Derringer. So, when we mixed the two versions of today's segue, we start with the Montrose version and then segued into Derringer bending the strings and there is a noticeable difference... and now you know the Rest of the Story...

Segue City is a recurring short-form programming element. At some point it will be a part of "The Big Kahuna." That’s an Internet Radio format that’s a part of Global Entertainment Technology that was created by Dain L. Schult.

It revives the art of mixing two songs together in a seamless pattern where it is tough to tell where the first song ended and the second one began. Sometimes the segues may also revolve around thematic ideas like matching or similar song titles.

Other times there are hidden meanings and Easter Eggs in the mix as well. We'll try anything because no two Segue City Specials will ever be exactly the same...

At least that’s the idea… your mileage may vary, check with your dealer; so, you don’t forget order before midnight; operators standing by for your important call; Our talent is on loan from God. We just pray He'll let us finish another segue for tomorrow... Member FDIC.. Licensed drivers only. This offer is void where prohibited by law and that normally means it's legal everywhere but in New Mexico... is that gun really loaded or not and where is Alec? The gun wants at least 2 points of Rust...

This feature is a five-time winner of the Thomas J. Duke Memorial Music Segue and BBQ Cook-Off Award. Yes, we just won again. It's like that old bumper sticker - "Ass, grass or gas - nobody rides for free."
