US President Joe Biden delivered a message on press freedom and Americans detained overseas during the annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner in Washington, DC, on Saturday, April 29. The president called “a pillar, maybe the pillar, of free society, not the enemy” and spoke at length praising his administration’s work to bring back Americans imprisoned overseas, including Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.
