This talk between Srila AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada and the mayor of Illinois Chicago happened on July 4, 1975. The mayor raised an issue of serious crime in the US, and Srila Prabhupada said the real problem was a lack of education in creating top-notch people. He said that tech knowledge, like IT, is low-level education because it leads to getting a job in some industry, which is the Sudra class. The aim of life is to realize God, and people are missing this aim by thinking that being rich, famous, educated, and beautiful is the goal. The end of knowledge is to know the original source of everything, and Western society is lacking in this knowledge. There are three qualities: goodness, passion, and ignorance, and the goal is to cultivate goodness. The Brahmanas are the most elevated class, and they possess qualities such as tranquillity, self-control, austerity, cleanliness, tolerance, truthfulness, knowledge, wisdom, and piety. The Kshatriyas are the second class and possess qualities such as bravery, power, firmness, resourcefulness, benevolence, and authority. The Vaisyas form the third division of society and farm, cow protection and business, whereas the Sudras make up the fourth and provide labor to the other classes while existing in the mode of ignorance. The objective is to form first and second-class citizens, who can provide sound counsel to the governing class and turn into excellent administrators and politicians.
