Attempted Repair of Harbor Freight Multimeter Part 1 - Electrical Diagnostics and Repair

I got a free multimeter from Harbor Freight about 8-10 years ago, and eventually it began giving strange readings, probably due to the battery being low. After attempting to fit it with an alternative power source, it stopped working. Here is my attempt to fix it by finding and replacing a faulty component.
