It looks like Disney has yet another woke failure on their hands. From the moment the first teaser trailer was released, we all knew that the The Little Mermaid was going to be an absolute dumpster fire. I mean, they were race-swapping characters and then sent the access media after the fans when they voiced their legitimate criticisms.

The whole notion that you can only relate to a fictional character if they look the same as you is a complete lie. If you take something like The Lord of the Rings which features Wizards and Dragons, everyone can identify with some aspect of each character because they are written organically. Not only that, the books are some of the most translated works in all of history so no one is preventing a particular group of people from immersing in this fantastical experience.

I found it legitimately hilarious when Halle Bailey admitted in an interview that she has always loved the character of Ariel and identified with her because if this is true then their whole excuse as to why they race-swapped the character to begin with has been proven to be a lie by their own accord.

When the message comes before trying to entertain an audience, the quality of the story and the effects drop because that is not the focus, and the way that the characters of Flounder and Sebastian have been treated in terms of their appearence just inform us that Disney is wreck less and doesn't respect the things that made them as big as they are.
