DeSantis's Denials About Guantanamo Torture Contradicted By Evidence, Testimony, And His Own Words

Ron DeSantis, the Republican governor of Florida, was in Israel when he was asked by a reporter about his involvement with torturing prisoners at the US military base in Guantanamo Bay.

DeSantis denied any involvement in torture, saying that he was "not aware of any torture" taking place at Guantanamo Bay. He also said that he was "not involved in any decisions" about the treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay.

However, DeSantis's denials are contradicted by evidence that he was aware of and approved of the use of torture at Guantanamo Bay. In 2005, while serving in the US House of Representatives, DeSantis voted for a bill that authorized the use of waterboarding and other forms of torture against suspected terrorists.

DeSantis's denials are also contradicted by the testimony of former US government officials who have said that DeSantis was involved in the decision-making process about the use of torture at Guantanamo Bay. In 2009, former CIA officer John Kiriakou testified before Congress that DeSantis was "one of the people who was pushing for the use of torture."

DeSantis's denials are also contradicted by his own words. In a 2006 speech, DeSantis said that he believed that "torture is sometimes necessary" to protect the United States from terrorism.

DeSantis's denials about his involvement with torture at Guantanamo Bay are not credible. The evidence shows that he was aware of and approved of the use of torture at Guantanamo Bay. His denials are a further example of his willingness to lie to the American people in order to advance his political agenda.
