Installation Times on Games Are Ridiculous!

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor launched on April 28th, 2023. We purchased the physical edition and not the digital one, so we are curious how long it would take to install it onto our Sony PlayStation 5. I can say that the installation times on current games are getting absolutely ridiculous.

Star Wars: Jedi Survivor continues the story of Cal Kestis following Order 66. The game was announced in late 2022 and was supposed to launch in early 2023. Unfortunately, there were some game development delays which led to the date getting pushed back. It is now here and we are ready to play. Or more appropriately I should say we are ready to install.

The initial game content needing to be installed on my PlayStation 5 measured in at a whopping 60 gigs and 65 minutes before I could start playing. This is with 1GB fiber internet and installed onto an SSD. That's pretty crazy, and that's not even everything that the game will give me over time. That's just the initial installation to allow me to start playing.

I wish there was some way that you could verify a pre-order of a physical copy to be able to pre-install, similar to what you can do with Xbox and Game Pass. You can pre-install games that are coming prior to launch If you do the digital version. You can also do that same thing if you buy the digital version through PlayStation, but I want physical disks.

What do you think about the installation time it takes for most modern-day games? Even for things like the Nintendo Switch it takes some time to install key components onto your system before you can start playing.
