We will likely first see intense seismic activity across the entire park. It could take weeks or months for those earthquakes to break up the rocks above the magma before an eruption. Scientists expect at least 230 cubic miles of materials to be ejected. Everything in the path of the lava flow is gone, and it may last weeks or even months. However, a much wider population will suffer from something else – volcanic ash. In fact, volcanic ash is where most of the damage will come from, and about one third of all the materials from the super-eruption will end up in the air.
