NEWS ABOUT THE PROJECT 📰
The beloved blue creatures are back in action! In this video, we take a deep dive into the announcement teaser for the highly anticipated Smurfs movie from Paramount Animation, set to release on February 14, 2025. Directed by Chris Miller, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker behind hits like Puss in Boots, The Penguins of Madagascar, and Shrek the Third, the movie is written by Pam Brady, a prominent writer from the long-running animated adult comedy South Park as well as the hit puppet film Team America: World Police.

The Smurfs movie marks the beginning of a massive slate of new projects involving the little blue creatures as Paramount seeks to capitalize on the brand's massive reach. This movie will be the first Smurfs movie under Paramount but the fourth modern Smurfs film. It's a joint venture between Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon Movies as part of their partnership inked last year. Little is currently known about the new Smurfs film, but we do know that it will be a musical film and that it's set to feature a prominent voice cast.

Pop superstar Rihanna leads the voice cast as Smurfette and will also create and perform her own music for the film. She is performing in her first film role since 2019's Guava Island, and her powerhouse voice will hopefully lift the Smurfs up to greater heights when the film comes out. Rihanna is no stranger to taking on massive projects, having previously appeared in Battleship and prominently lent her voice to the DreamWorks film Home. She's even graced the small screen with her presence, popping up as a guest in Bates Motel. She enjoyed a recent resurgence in the pop zeitgeist after her shining performance during the Super Bowl that earned rave reviews from viewers.
