BEFORE DeeBaby would earn recognition as one of Latin hip-hop’s most promising up-and-coming artists, he was born Jesus Martinez on July 22nd, 1996 and got his start on the streets of the one place he likes to call home, Houston, Texas. Raised primarily in the Northwest part of town, Dee is of Mexican descent but he moved around Houston so much when he was younger that he doesn’t believe he ever spent an entire calendar year in any one spot. Regardless, Northwest Houston will always be the area of the city he keeps coming back to time and time again. As a kid, Dee was raised in a single parent household by his mother, who looked after not only him, but his two other siblings as well. Serving in the role of both mother and father, Dee’s mom did everything she could to make sure her kids were provided for, including working long hours that prevented her from being around as much as her kids would have no doubt liked. Left much to his own devices, DeeBaby was forced to adapt to his environment in order to survive. In point of fact, Dee likes to compare his childhood to the idea of a tiger who was raised in a zoo, but was then released back into the wild – the lion might not have any idea how to survive at first, but if it wants to continue living, it sure as heck better figure things out fast. And that’s what Dee was forced to do as just as kid.
