This is not because of changes in income or filing mistakes but most likely because the expanded child tax credit and earned income tax credit have expired. These credits were initially introduced to assist young and low-paid workers and have helped lift millions of children from poverty. However, these credits expired at the end of 2021 due to a lack of support from Democratic Senator Joe Manchin and the Republican party.
